How to make a wire jewelry clasp

Wire clasp

I am using copper for making this wire clasp, but you can use any metal. Copper is a good metal to practice with as it is cheap.

What you need:

  • 9.5  centimeter 1.5 mm round wire
  • Ruler
  • File
  • Side cutter
  • Round nose pliers
  • Flat nose pliers

 Instructions

Cutting wire
Cut one piece of wire of 4 centimeter and one piece of 5.5 centimeter
Using a file
Use the file and sand away the rough ends

Twisting a loop
Twist a loop on one end of the wire
Twisting from other side to straighten
Twist from other side to straighten   
Twisted and straightened loop
Twisted and straightened loop
Twisting a bigger loop on the other side of wire
Twist a bigger loop on the other side                                                    
Twisting from other side to straighten
Twist from other side and straighten
Straightening with a flat tol
Straighten with the flat tool

 

5.5 centimeter wire

Making small loops
Make a small loop on each end of the wire facing in same direction
Straightening wire with flat nose pliers
Straighten the wire with the flat nose pliers
Measure 1 centimeter from the end
Measure 1 centimeter from the end
Bending wire around the tool
Bend the wire around the round nose pliers while holding the tool tight
Straightening wire with a flat tool
Straighten the wire with the flat tool
Finished clasp
